“Nature has undoubtedly mastered the art of winter

gardening and even the most experienced

gardener can learn from the unrestrained beauty

around them.”

~ Vincent A. Simeone

Snow, Love, & Plants

A snowy beginning to February reminds us that we are in the midst of winter. The cold wintry weather has created a magical landscape outside our homes. Leafless branches and limbs dusted with snow and evergreens covered with frost display the architecture of our gardens. Some may believe that the winter landscape is barren and desolate. A garden in the winter may be quiet and calm, but it has a beauty unto itself. A garden may be in its truest form in the winter while it lays dormant above ground, while below the soil surface the magic of spring is waiting to unfurl. Try not to wish this winter away, because we need the winter to make the spring awaken.

February at JF&GC is filled with the language of love in the form of flowers, seeds, and house plants. Stop by today to see what we have in the store. Visiting the greenhouse is a great way to warm up on a cold winter's day.

Love is in the air (along with some snow).

This is a reminder that Valentine's Day is Sunday, February 14th. That's less than two weeks away. Create a lasting memory of your love with fresh cut flowers. Each arrangement is created by our team of professional florists. Choose from predesigned pieces or let our florists create a unique arrangement. If you are looking for something different to send this year, what about a plant? We have a great selection of indoor tropical plants that we can plant in terra-cotta or decorative pots. Don't delay on placing an order for your loved ones. Visit our website, call, or stop in today. We are ready to help you with all your floral needs, including local delivery.

“Flowers always make people better, happier, and more helpful; they are sunshine, food and medicine to the mind.”

~ Luther Burbank

Are you ready to sow?

Winter is the perfect time to prepare for the upcoming growing season. If you have not, now is the time to take stock of how your garden performed last season. Spending time with seed catalogues and seed racks is a great way to learn about new plants and deciding on what you will grow this year. We carry Botanical Interests and Livingston seed, as well as everything you need to start seeds. Many vegetables and flowers take roughly eight to ten weeks to grow from a seed into a plant ready to be transplanted outside in the spring garden. We recommend doing your research to make sure that you start your seeds at the correct time. We are here to help you with any seed questions you may have. For more information check out our blog post "Starting Seeds".

House Plants

Here is a peek at a few of our latest tropical arrivals. New plants arrive almost daily, don't miss out on all the tropical beauty.

Winter can be a difficult period for many house plants. Make sure you are doing everything you can to help them thrive during the colder months. For more tips and information on caring for your indoor plants please read our blog post "Winter House Plant Care".

“Don’t think the garden loses

its ecstasy in winter.

It’s quiet,

but the roots are

down there

riotous.”

~ Rumi
